What To Do When Someone Dies

What to Do When a Death Occurs
Losing a loved one is never easy, and knowing what steps to take can help provide reassurance during this difficult time.
If a Death Occurs at Home
- If the deceased was under the care of a doctor, the doctor should be notified.
- If the deceased was not under medical care, you must contact emergency services.
- You should contact Ryan’s Funeral Directors to begin making funeral arrangements.
- Depending on the circumstances, the deceased may be taken into the care of our funeral home or, in the case of a sudden death, to a hospital for a post-mortem examination.
If a Death Occurs in a Hospital, Hospice, or Nursing Home
- Normally, a doctor will be in attendance or called by the nursing team to confirm that death has occurred.
- The doctor or hospital staff will inform the family if a post-mortem examination is required, but in most cases, this will not be necessary.
- You should contact Ryan’s Funeral Directors to make funeral arrangements.
- Once the necessary formalities are completed, the deceased can be transferred to our funeral home.
